Getting Your Work Published

getting published can be rewarding in a lot of ways. Sometimes you will receive some cash but almost always you will get a fantastic gift pack of scrapbooking and cardmaking supplies. If you are hoping to get a job in design for one of the many papercraft companies, a long list of works published is your best asset. Of course, you can just want to see your designs in a nice glossy magazine and there's nothing wrong with that! Below you will find everything you need to start submitting to all the major publications. Here are some tips:

  • Check out their magazine and web site and see what they've published so far. Sometimes there's a particular 'style' that they are most drawn to.
  • Print and read the submission guidelines and follow them exactly.
  • Take good notes when you are making your crafts. Keep track of papers, stamps, inks and embellishments used.
  • Keep track of your efforts. Make a list of what projects were submitted to which magazines and when.
  • Consult the editorial calender if they offer one. Even the best work might not get published if it doesn't fit with their theme.
  • Send in your best work, on time.
  • Take good pictures! They will be deciding on your work primarily by what they see in the picture you send, so make sure it is in focus and the colors look good. There are some tips on taking good digital pictures here.
  • Send your work out frequently, and don't give up!
