How I Got A New Google Adwords Account

Hi, I’m Tanya, and I used to be Google’s little bitch. I’ve been Google free for about a week. Until yesterday, when Google decided to allow me a new account and… I relapsed.

If you’ve been following my little adventures with Google Adwords (if not, the other posts should be listed under the ‘related posts’ at the bottom of this post, if the plugin is working properly) and how I was recently banned permanently without any reason. Well, I refused to accept them, and started emailing and calling until I finally got TOLD TO CALL SUPPORT. Anyone who is familiar with Google Adwords knows that this is very rare. You see, I was calling. And although I did get a really nice woman one time, who did her best to help me (but couldn’t) most of the time the response from them was, “this number is for new customers only, we have no access to your account information, please email support’. I had emailed… many times. Anyways, finally I get this email telling me to call support and this time, when I did and I told them that I was TOLD to call I finally got some help. Actually, first the guy didn’t believe me that I was told to call them, and I had to forward him the email as proof before he’d attempt to help me. I guess what had happened was that I was advertising multiple websites within one account… which is contrary to their rules. Now I don’t remember seeing this when I signed up over a year ago – had I know, I would have simply opened multiple accounts for the multiple websites I own and each of the others that I promote. No biggie. But to me, opening multiple accounts under my name and having to give a different email address for each, seemed dishonest and like the type of thing that Google would ban you for. I stand corrected.

I was advised to start up a new account, using a different email address, advertising only one site. I did, and the new account was immediately put ‘under review’ until yesterday, when I was approved! I’m happy to have things somewhat back on track, but I’ll never place so much weight on Google again.

I’m not entirely sure what I did that managed to get me approved for a new account after the emails they sent banning me for life… All I can suggest is to try what I did:

  • Email support once a day using the form on the ‘Contact Us’ page on Google.com/adwords
  • Call 1.866.2GOOGLE and talk to a real live person
  • Email support AGAIN!
  • Call support AGAIN!
  • With phone support, it seems to be about getting the right person, so keep trying
  • Be polite
  • Be apologetic for whatever you did wrong
  • Don’t spam them! One email a day is enough, they do read them
  • If that doesn’t work, you can always send some snail mail: 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
    Mountain View, CA 94043
  • You may be given a survey based on your interactions with Google Support, feel free to use this as another place to tell your story
  • Offer a phone number to reach you at, it beats waiting for an email

Good Luck!

Tanya

Yeah, I had it – it’s king of useless to be honest. I’ve only really used it a couple times. Once was to export my campaigns so I could move them over to Bing, lol.

google is very particular about spam, so they hand-pick and go into each and every account to make sure that it does not violate their terms. its typical. your account is usually ready within 5 minutes, but goes into a moderation. typically you will wait even longer because Google has a new set of policies which do not allow anyone to use another registered company name in their online adwords. so be careful of the words you use in your adwords. As long as they are genuine and you are not badmouthing another corp site. you are ok.

Yeah, I guess that’s what was happening to me. I was just worried that they weren’t going to approve me because they had told me in several emails that I was banned forever and that I’d never advertise with them again…. Ah well, all is good now, sales are coming in. My cost per click is up because I haven’t built up a history of relevance with them, but that will work itself out. Are you using Google Adwords too?
